Snoring Waking Up Tired

How To Prevent Snoring – Causes, Problems, Cures, Remedies and Natural Solutions

They say about 1 out of 5 people today Snores, so there’s a strong possibility that someone you know has a problem with snoring. It’s a problem that can lead to health problems for the snorer and believe it or not also the people around them.

The Causes

Snoring occurs when the tissue in your throat relaxes and vibrates against the back of the throat when breathing. The narrower the passage for air to travel through, the louder the snoring will be.

There are many, many possible causes of the snoring. Below is a list of the more common causes:

• Allergies

• A cold or the flu

• Alcohol

• Sleeping pills

• Overweight

• Smoking

• Naturally thick tissue in the throat

• Incorrect sleeping posture

• Low muscle tone in the throat muscles

Sleep Apnea

The Problems

Snoring can lead to more serious problems like high blood pressure, Sleeping Disorders, diabetes, strokes and even heart attacks. Snoring may also be an indicator of sleep apnea.

Snoring is something that is usally only taken seriously when the snorer’s family can’t take it anymore, but treating it before it gets to that point is better for the snorer and everyone within hearing distance.

If you live alone you may not know that you snore, but if you always wake up tired no matter how much sleep you get it may be because your snoring is preventing you from getting a solid night’s sleep.

Excessive Snoring may also mean you have a more serious problem like sleep apnea.

If you wake up with a headache, are extremely tired during the day, don’t feel refreshed when you wake up, have trouble concentrating or a very low attention span, or wake up during the night choking and gasping for breath you should probably see a doctor.

The Natural Cures and Remedies

Here are some of those non-invasive tips to stop the snoring:

• Sleep on your side – there’s a higher chance of snoring if you lie on your back, and sleeping on your stomach will kill your neck.

• Keep a regular sleep schedule – and make sure you get enough sleep, many people snore only when they are overly tired

• Elevate your head when sleeping – you can increase the angle of your bed by raising the head of the bed or use pillows to your upper body, don’t just raise your head that’ll put more pressure on your air way and have the opposite effect.

• Avoid alcohol and tranquillizers – they basically cause the muscles of your jaw and throat to relax, increasing your changes of snoring.

• Treat your allergies – if your nose is stuffy it may force you to breathe through your mouth when sleeping. If your nose is stuffed I recommend using a neti pot, the are incredibly effective, natural and pretty cheap to. If you have allergies and are taking allergy medication, make sure your allergy medication is antihistamine free.

• Buy a mouth guard – mouth guards will keep your jaw muscles from relaxing too much, and prevent snoring. It may not be too attractive to your significant other but it’ll help you both get some sleep! :)

• Lose weight – when you’re heavier the extra weight puts pressure on your airway, causing snoring.

• Avoid large meals right before bed

• If you smoke try to stop – smoking damages your respiratory system, nasal congestion and inflames the air passages, which doesn’t help in the snoring department

• Start doing exercises for your throat – this will increase the strength of the muscles in your throat and prevent them from relaxing to the point where you snore

Mild snoring that isn’t related to sleep apnea responds well to home remedies. Finding a cure for your snoring problem can result in an improved quality of life for you and your loved ones.

An effective and pretty simple solution is doing throat exercises, here’s a website with interesting information on the snoring exercises: www.TheStopSnoringExcerciseProgram.com

Sleeping Apnea

Sleep Apnea Treatment

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. Sleep apnea is recognized as a problem by others witnessing the individual during episodes or is suspected because of its effects on the body (sequelae). In sleep apnea, your breathing stops or gets very shallow while you are sleeping. Each pause in breathing typically lasts 10 to 20 seconds or more. These pauses can occur 20 to 30 times or more an hour. Symptoms may be present for years, even decades without identification, during which time the sufferer may become conditioned to the Daytime Sleepiness and fatigue associated with significant levels of sleep disturbance. In adults, the most typical individual with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is obese, with particular heaviness at the face and neck. The hallmark symptom of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in adults is excessive daytime sleepiness. Typically, an adult or adolescent with severe long-standing obstructive sleep apnea will fall asleep for very brief periods in the course of usual daytime activities if given any opportunity to sit or rest. Sleep apnea is recognized as a problem by others witnessing the individual during episodes or is suspected because of its effects on the body.

Sleep apnea is a common disorder that can be very serious. There are two distinct forms of sleep apnea: Central and Obstructive. Sleep apnea can cause high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disease, memory problems, weight gain, impotency, and headaches. Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common category of sleep-disordered breathing. The prevalence of OSA among the adult population in western Europe and North America. The hallmark symptom of the disorder is excessive daytime sleepiness. Additional symptoms of sleep apnea include restless sleep, Loud Snoring (with periods of silence followed by gasps), falling asleep during the day, morning headaches, trouble concentrating, irritability, forgetfulness, mood or behavior changes, anxiety, and depression. Maxillomandibular advancement (MMA). A more invasive surgery usually only tried in difficult cases where other surgeries have not relieved the patient’s OSA. Apneas are usually measured during sleep (preferably in all stages of sleep) over a two-hour period.

Weight reduction and avoiding alcohol and sedatives may help some individuals. Surgery to remove excess tissue at the back of the throat , to remove enlarged tonsils or adenoids ,or to create an opening in the trachea to bypass the obstructed airway during sleep. Sleep Apnea in children where removing the tonsils or adenoids does not take care of the problem is usually treated with a C-PAP (continous positive airway pressure) or Bi-Level positive airway pressure. C-PAP is a machine that blows air into your nose via a nose mask, keeping the airway open and unobstructed. Bi-Level has an inspiratory pressure that is higher than the expiratory pressure. Some children have facial deformities that may cause the sleep apnea. Maxillomandibular advancement. In this procedure, the upper and lower part of your jaw is moved forward from the remainder of your face bones. Tracheostomy is used in persons with severe, life- threatening sleep apnea. Laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) is done to Eliminate Snoring but has not been shown to be effective in Treating Sleep Apnea.

Sleep Apnea Treatment Tips

1. Behavioral Therapy-Is usually all that is needed for a mild case. It changes the person behavior towards the use of alcohol, tobacco which affects the airway.

2. Physical or Mechanical Therapy- The therapy provides air pressure to keep the airway from narrowing.

3. Surgery is considered only when other alternative therapy failed or if the patient volunteered to.

4. Avoid or at least limit alcohol intake.

5. Avoid or limit the use of tranquilizers, sleeping pills.

6. Avoid sleeping on your back.

7. Oxygen and medications may have adjunctive roles in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in some patients.

8. Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, which removes excess tissue in the throat to make the airway wider.

9. Tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy, which removes the tonsils and/or the adenoids.

10. Tracheostomy, which creates a hole in the windpipe (trachea). A tube is then put in the hole to bring air in.

My Snoring Wakes Me Up

Learn Many Great Ways To Stop Snoring

The greatest way to stop snoring depends greatly on how often snoring occurs. Infrequent snoring from colds, allergies, or other illnesses is treated easily by treating the dominant cause of the snoring (the sickness) plus adding nasal strips to help open airways whilst asleep. Many nasal strips are even available mentholated which many people find soothing when they are ill.

For serious Snorers, the solution will usually warrant medication, surgery or a change in lifestyle. Medication usually means pharmaceutical products such as throat sprays, Snoring Pillows, or mouth guards for ways to stop snoring.

Changes to One’s Lifestyle

Many habits that people have can actually contribute to their snoring. Smoking, drinking large amounts of alcohol, and being overweight all could cause snoring. So, quitting smoking, drinking less and the loss of weight viadiet and exercise are great ways to stop snoring.

Booze and Ciggies

Alcohol tends to relax all the muscles in the human body, including all the soft tissues of the mouth and throat. For this reason, reducing the amount of alcohol one consumes will prevent this over relaxation and could be a way to stop snoring.

Smoking is bad for every part of the respiratory system and it doesn’t come as a surprise that it would make snoring worse or even be the source of Loud Snoring. Quitting smoking is a huge benefit to a person’s overall health and may consequently be a way to quit snoring.

Being Overweight or Obese

People who are overweight, especially around the region of the neck, have an increased risk of the condition known as Sleep Apnea. Losing weight will incur various health benefits including being a way to quit snoring. Also, a regular and healthy diet and exercise can help a person sleep more soundly which also leads to less snoring.

Keeping a Regular Routine

Keeping a regular sleep regime is important for people who want a way to quit snoring. Waking and going to sleep in a more regular manner at the same time every day can prevent snoring and help in feeling more refreshed after each sleep.

Cat napping during the day can cause people to sleep less well at night. Waking during the night contributes to the snoring problem. Omitting naps from a person’s daily schedule is another great way to quit snoring.

Your Sleep Position Is Related To Snoring

For many people sleeping on their side prevents them from snoring, hence the reason many wives may elbow their husbands throughout the night. Something as simple as sewing tennis balls into the back of a person’s pajamas is a way to quit snoring, as that person wouldn’t be able to comfortably rest on their back!

What ever the cause of each person’s snoring, finding a way to quit snoring is possible. If the snoring doesn’t subside with the use of these tips it may be necessary for the person to see a doctor to be tested for a more serious condition called sleep apnea.

37 weeks pregnant and struggling with catarrh?

I am 37 weeks pregnant and really struggling with a chest full of catarrh. I snore like a pig at night and even wake myself up with it. I feel like my chest is full and would like to take something to break it down.

Obviously I don’t want to take anything that would harm my baby. Is it ok to put some drops of Olbas Oil (Eucalyptus) in some boiling water and breath this in?

(I don’t smoke!)

Thanks guys

Sleep Therapy

CPAP Therapy-New Developments

While many times discussions focused on compliance seem to paint a sometimes bleak outlook for many CPAP users, there are some new developments in the industry which have the potential to help many CPAP users achieve a dramatically higher compliance rate. In addition to a higher compliance rate, which is sometimes vague, the health and success that continued CPAP therapy affords the user is probably the biggest reason to stick with it.

RemZzzs CPAP mask liners
One of the most exciting developments in the field of CPAP is a new product that acts as a soft barrier between the mask skirt and the skin. The product is called RemZzzs CPAP mask liners, and it works by helping to absorb the build-up of oil, dirt and moisture on the mask skirt. This dramatically reduces or eliminates both the “blow out” leaks mentioned above, in addition to preventing skin irritation and allergic reactions by removing the skin from the mask skirt material altogether. This has proved to be a winning combination for thousands of people as many have found that even some of the worst cases of dermatitis have cleared up within a short period. Many CPAP users also find that their partners are allowed to Sleep without startling interruption from “blow out” type leaks. Additionally, there are those that find that leaking into the eyes as mentioned above is either reduced or eliminated which helps to prevent eye dryness and swelling.

Philip s Respironics Sleep Therapy System
Philips Respironics has recently unveiled a new CPAP therapy system. According to the press release, the new system has the following benefits:
“The new Philips Respironics Sleep Therapy System combines 25 years of experience with state-of-the-art technology and new-to-market features that optimize comfort, care, and efficacy of therapy in patients. Philips Respironics Sleep Therapy System has the ability to recognize and report when a patient may be experiencing symptoms beyond OSA. A sophisticated three-layer algorithm distinguishes between obstructed and clear airway apneas and periodic breathing, such as Cheyne-Stokes Respiration. Medical professionals now have easy access to sleep assessment parameters typically found on diagnostic equipment.”

Hybrid CPAP Masks
Another recent innovation in the CPAP field is the introduction of the hybrid, or “universal” mask. A hybrid CPAP mask is generally comprised of a mask skirt that covers the mouth with a nasal “pillow” interface directly above the mouth portion. A nasal “pillow” style mask is one which employs two small prongs which fit directly into the nose and deliver the needed positive pressure. The hybrid mask is ideal for those that do not tolerate a full face mask and have issues with skin breakdown on the bridge of the nose. The hybrid, or universal mask was developed to eliminate the pressure on the forehead and nose bridge that occurs with typical CPAP solutions.

Snoring Relief Ear Plugs

How To Treat Vertigo

Vertigo is a disease which manifests sudden postural imbalance and dizziness. The person may suddenly feel the symptoms but will get back to their normal state after the episode of vertigo. However vertigo is a serious disease as it increases the risk factor for some of the serious disorders such as strokes and tumors. There are different types of vertigo such as peripheral vertigo, objective vertigo and central vertigo, hence, the treatment of the vertigo is a necessity as it may lead to severe imbalance problems.

The treatment strategy for vertigo is decided based on the diagnostic results which should show the cause of the disease. The disease is usually treated symptomatically since it will help to reduce the severity of manifestations. The problem is in the inner ear, which includes dislocation of calcium crystals and infections such as Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPPV) and can be treated with certain exercises such as physical maneuvers. However, brain damage or cardiac problems are more serious and hence have to be treated very carefully.

The drugs for the treatment of vertigo can be administrated orally, through intravenous injections or patches in the skin. In case of any bacterial infections, antibiotics are preferred to stop the further complications. Meclizine hydrochloride, Diphenhydramine, Promethazine Hydrochloride, Diazepam and Scopolamine transdermal patch are some of the commonly used for the treatment of vertigo.

Particle repositioning maneuver is a specific treatment for vertigo caused by mis-positioning of calcium carbonate crystals. In the treatment the head has to be moved in such a manner to reposition the crystals and to give relief from the symptoms of imbalance.

The exercises for vestibular rehabilitation are also used as remedy for vertigo in which the patient repeatedly undergoes the position change from lying state to sitting and vice versa. This is repeated until the patient has recovered completely and most often, the recurrence of the disease will not occur.

In serious cases, surgery in the inner eye to insert a plug is recommended to overcome the disorder. It has high success rate and only 5% of people have to repeat the treatment.

Alternative medicines also suggest many effective treatments for vertigo. Poppy seeds, dates and citrus fruits are recommended as good remedies for vertigo. Herbal supplements and specific treatments are also included in treatment.

Rest is the immediate solution to vertigo, as soon as the symptoms are felt. Use of a cane is also sometime necessary to retain steadiness and balance. A patient with a tendency for vertigo must be extremely careful to adjust their movements at a slow pace.

Loud Snoring

Prevent Loud Snoring

I wanted to take the time to talk to you about how you can prevent loud snoring because this is a huge problem for a lot of people. Everyone has a different type of sound they produce. Some will have a very light wheezing sound, while others will literally sound like an engine in a bed. The real issue here isn’t the people that snore, but it is the people around them that have to listen to it. It is typically the spouse in the bed next to you that has to put up with this problem, night after night for years. I’m going to show you how to prevent loud snoring.

When it comes to fixing this problem you have to first identify what is occurring when you go to Sleep. Obviously something changes with your breathing that doesn’t occur while you’re awake. Essentially the loose tissue in your throat is violently vibrating, so something is causing this vibration. For the longest time researchers weren’t sure why, but recently they discovered it is the position of the jaw. As you sleep the jaw becomes unsupported and falls on the throat. It puts pressure on the throat and this increases the overall vibration.

If you want to prevent loud snoring than all you have to do is pull the jaw off the throat, so it can’t apply that pressure. The way you do it is by using a jaw supporter. It is a very simple device that will hold the jaw up with a basic strap and it makes it next to impossible to snore.
